In Pembroke Dock Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 54973 Acting Bombardier John Caleb Richards serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery who died 18/09/1915.

Dorothy Hall has submitted the following:-

John Caleb was the son of John and Mary Jane Richards and was born at Leasingthorne in 1889. In 1901 the family were at Middridge. John in 1915 was living at Evenwood.

John enlisted at Ferryhill and died 18/09/1915 at Pembroke.

In Etherley St Cuthbert church yard is a badly weathered family headstone for the Richards family which reads:-

In loving memory of
our dear mother
Mary Jane Richards
who died on December 29th 1903
aged 38 years
also our dear sister Maggie
daughter of the above
and our dear brother Jack
son of the above
who died for his King and Country
September 18th 1915 aged 25 years
Gone but not forgotten

Father in thy gracious keeping
Leave we now our loved ones sleeping
