Thomas Gilbert was the son of Thomas and Ann Reed born in 1894 at Escombe. In 1911 the family is at Etherley Grange where the father is a farm labourer. Thomas G. is a worker. In 1914 he was a farm labourer.
Thomas enlisted at Bishop Auckland in 1914 in the 14th DLI, he was promoted to Lance Corporal 15/10/1914 and to Corporal 03/11/1914. He went to France 11/09/1915. In 1918 he was transferred to the 19th Battalion and was killed in action 28/07/1918.
Thomas Gilbert Reed is remembered at High Etherley on H127.01 and H127.02
