In Etaples Military cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 14017 Private Ralph Featherstone serving with the 10th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 28/02/1917.

Ron Shotton has submitted the following:-

Jonathan Ralph was the son of Wallace and Margaret Jane Featherstone who was born in 1880 at Hamsterley. In 1914 he was a Coal Miner.

Ralph enlisted at Bishop Auckland 31/08/1914. He went to France 06/07/1915. He died of pneumonia at 20th General Hospital Camiers Etaples 28/02/1917.

Ralph's brother Wallace also died in the Great War.

In Etherley St Cuthbert churchyard is a family headstone for Featherstone which reads:-

who died May 19th 1916
aged 58 years
Also of Margaret Jane wife of the above
who died May 23rd 1920
aged 60 years
Also Florence their daughter
who died May 29th 1916
aged 23 years
Also Albert their son
who died June 21st 1919
aged 19 years
Also Jonathan Ralph their son
who fell in action
in France Feb. 28th 1917
aged 36 years
Also Wallace their son
who fell in action
in France March 1st 1917
aged 35 years

Ralph Featherstone is remembered at High Etherley on H127.01 and H127.02
