Lonsdale, T., F/O, 1943
On the Malta Memorial is the name of 112533 Flying Officer Thomas Lonsdale, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 06/01/1943.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

F/O Lonsdale was killed when Vickers Wellington 1c W5401 ‘F’ of 104 Squadron was lost on a mission to bomb the docks at Tunis. It was part of a force of eight Wellingtons, which as a result of bad weather, diverted to attack Souuse, where heavy anti-aircraft fire was encountered. It is thought W5401 was hit by this fire and crashed some 3 miles south west of Sousse with the loss of all six crew members.

He is remembered in Bishop Auckland on B140.01 and in Durham on D47.059
