1st Batt. Durham Light Infantry
Wounded at Potgieter's Drift
Tugela River, South Africa on
Feb. 5th 1900 was invalided home
Died of enteric fever and buried
At sea on March 19th 1900
Aged 22 years
Also William father of the above
And beloved husband of
Jane
Who died March 4th 1921
Aged 75 years
Also of the above named
Jane Thirkell
Who died Dec. 23rd 1927
Aged 80 years

Alfred Thirkell is not remembered on a local War Memorial.
