"My great uncle Sydney Pearson, born 1897, is remembered on the plaque.
He enlisted in the D.L.I. but transferred to the H.L.I. to serve with his two brothers. He died at Thiepval on 1st July as Private 3189. He was the youngest of the family.
His eldest brother was killed at Thiepval on 3rd July; he was Sergeant John Pearson, born 1877 at Great Lumley, H.L.I. 14074. They are both commemorated on the Thiepval memorial.
A third brother, my grandfather Thomas Albert Edward Pearson, born 1894, H.L.I. 3205, survived the war and was awarded the D.C.M.
Sydney Pearson is remembered at West Rainton on W113.02 and W113.05
John Robert Pearson is not remembered on a local War Memorial as he lived in Glasgow.
