In St.Philip and St.James Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 124488 Flying Officer Joseph Henry Gray Watson serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 15/05/1943.

The headstone reads:-

Treasured memories of
our dear son
Flying Officer
Joseph H.G. Watson
R.A.F. V.R.
killed on returning from duty
15th May 1943 Aged 28 years

To live in the hearts, of those
we love, is not to die

Also Joseph father of above
Died 17th July 1953, aged 67 years

In front of the headstone is a vase which reads:-

In loving memory
From his father, mother
and brothers

F/Off. Watson was serving with 30 O.T.U. He was a crew member of Wellington X HE468 which took off from Hixon on a training exercise and which, on the return journey, dived out of control and crashed in a farm near Salt Heath. All were killed.
