At Rest

Eddie Castling & Andrew O’Sullivan have submitted the following:

POLLOCK, Jackson
He was born 1897.
He lived at 39 Rogerson Terrace, Croxdale, Co Durham. His father, James, was a Colliery Weighman. There were 3 brothers: George, who was a miner and killed at Croxdale colliery in 1924, and John and Stanley.

Jackson was not found in the Durham Johnson school admissions records (they did not cover the relevant period) but his elder brother George attended the school, being admitted 19th February 1904 aged 13 when his address was given as 36 Rogerson’s Terrace but all other information matches.

Jackson worked as clerk.

He signed up to the Army Reserve in December 1915, and was assigned to the London Regiment in February 1917.

He appears not to have gone overseas, but died from Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis which he contracted whilst at Hazeley Down Camp, Twyford, Winchester in March 1917.

He died 1st April 1917, aged 19

Jackson Pollock is remembered in Durham on D47.025
