The Newcastle Journal 10/02/1958 reports:-

SERGEANT MAJOR DIES ON PARADE

Sergeant Major James Pratt aged 41 died In the Drill Hall Spennymoor yesterday. He collapsed as he was about to dismiss a parade of "C" Company of the Durham Light Infantry (TA ).

Members of the company found that he was dead when they went to help him.

The facts have been reported to the Coroner.

Pratt who was married with two children went to Spennymoor as the company drill instructor about two years ago
