Coltman, A., Pte., 1917
In St Leger British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 29855 Private Adamson Coltman serving with 7th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment who died 10/07/1917.

Brenda McMahon has submitted the following:-

Adamson was born in Bishop Middleham in 1885 and baptised later that year on 17 May. His parents were Jonathan and Elizabeth (nee Adamson) who married at Sedgefield on October 8th 1883. They went on to have 4 children together.

In 1891 the family were at Bishop Middleham where Jonathan worked as a joiner/cartwright. Daughter, Ruth and son, Allen were also at the home although Adamson is not mentioned.

The 1911 census shows the family much the same as before. Jonathan had progressed in his trade as he was now an employer. Both sons, Adamson and Allan, were working in their shop whilst daughter, Ruth did domestic housework. The family lived at Fishburn now.

Adamson enlisted West Hartlepool but died of wounds July 10th 1917. His service records are presently unavailable.

Medals: British War Medal and Victory Medal

His brother Allen who served with the Durham Light Infantry died of pneumonia on March 4th 1919 at Dunkirk.

Soldiers Died in the Great War states that he was born in Bishop Middleham and enlisted in West Hartlepool.

Adamson Coltman is remembered in Fishburn on F39.01 and F39.03, in Hartlepool on H115.30 page 9, and in West Hartlepool on W111.054 and W111.086 page 8.
