"A memorial service was held on Sunday at the Parish Church, Byers Green, for Pte. G. Wilson, who has been missing for some months, and has now been officially informed that he is now presumed to have been killed. Deceased was a member of the Church Lads' Brigade and a staunch churchman and was held in the highest esteem. The Church Lads' Brigade attended the service and the buglers sounded the Last. Post. Suitable hymns were sung by the Choir, and the large congregation. The Dead march in "Saul" was played. The Rector, the Rev. R.E. Loxley, M.A., was the preacher, and feelingly alluded to the young life that had been cut so short, and to the many virtues he possessed."
