In Stanley New Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 1059866 Aircraftman 2nd ClassJames Hancock serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 17/01/1941.

The headstone reads:-

In loving memory of
James
beloved son of
Jonathan and
Lily Hancock
who died Jan. 17th 1941
Result of an accident
Whilst serving in the R.A.F.
Aged 20 years

Son of Jonathan and Lily Hancock, of South Stanley.

James Hancock is not remembered on a local Stanley War Memorial but is named in a RAF Book of Remembrance
