In Leadgate St. Ives Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 24522 Corporal John William Barron, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 17/07/1916.

The headstone reads:-

In Loving memory of
John William Barron
Corpl. in 17th D.L.I.
Who died at Rugeley Camp
July 17th 1916 aged 27
Also
Richard Swinburn Barron
Brother of the above
Who died at Leadgate
Sept. 27th 1916 aged 24 years
Until the day dawn

Also of
Frederick Barron
their brother
who was killed in action
in Italy on
Oct. 28th 1918
Aged 21 years

An In Memoriam notice was posted in the Blaydon Courier on 19/07/1919 and 29/10/1921
