Reay, R., Pte., 1944
In Anzio War Cemetery, Italy, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 4620143 Private Robert Reay serving with the 1st Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) who died 02/02/1944.

Dorothy Hall has submitted the following:-

Robert Reay, born 10th March 1916, was the son of Frederick Thompson born 1880, and Mary, nee Jackson, born 1879.

In September 1939, the family were living at Hillcrest, Maiden Law. Frederick was an Explosive Transport Worker and Mary was a housewife. Son Arthur, born 1914, was a School Teacher/Woodwork Instructor, Robert was an Explosive Transport Driver and daughter, Mary born 1917, helped at home.

Robert died in 1944 and was buried in Italy. The inscription "He Sleeps With England's Heroes In The Watchful Care Of God" was added to his headstone.

Robert Reay is remembered at Lanchester on L62.01 and L62.06
