Halpin, J., Pte., 1944
At Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio, Italy, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 4398392 Private John Halpin serving with the 1st Battalion Green Howards (Yorkshire Regiment) who died 13/03/1944.

Dorothy Hall has submitted the following:-

John Halpin, the son of Joseph and Jane, nee Campbell, was born 23rd April 1910. In 1911 the family were living at Dormand's Cottages, Lanchester.

By September 1939, the family were at 13 Fair View, Burnhope. Joseph, born 1882, was a Colliery Screener above ground, Jane, born 1890, was a housewife. John was an unemployed Builders Labourer. Other siblings included: Joseph born 1909, Henry born 1912, Mary 1914, James W. 1917, Veronica 1920, Matilda Sophia 1921, Catherine 1923, Rose 1926 and Robert 1927.

Jane Halpin died in 1939 and Joseph Halpin in 1942. Both are buried in Lanchester Kitswell Road Cemetery.

John Halpin died at Anzio in 1944.

John Halpin is remembered at Lanchester on L62.01 and L62.07 and at Burnhope on B153.01 B153.05 and B153.10
