On Dunkirk Memorial, Nord, France, is the name of 4534810 Lance Corporal George Green serving with the 7th Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment who died 05/06/1940.

George Green, the son of John William and Georgina, was born in County Durham in 1915.

In September 1939, Georgina, born 1888, now a widow was living at 17, Deneside, Lanchester. She was a housewife living with her son John, born 1911, a Builders' Labourer.

George married Grace Smith, born 25th February 1912, in 1938 at Staincross, West Riding. In September 1939, George, a Coach Repairer and Bus Driver at a Bus Depot, was living with Grace, a housewife at 53, Hoyland Road, Hoyland.

George enlisted into the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales' Own) and was later transferred to the Royal Norfolk Regiment. George Green died at Franlin, June 5th 1940.

Georgina died at Lee Hill Hospital, Lanchester in 1958 and was buried in Lanchester Kitswell Road Cemetery. Grace Green later became Grace Thompson.
