Gamlin, R.J., Bdr., 1941
At Keren War Cemetery, Eritrea, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 5177835 Bombardier Richard John Gamlin serving with the 4th Field Regiment Royal Artillery who died 19/03/1941.

Dorothy Hall has submitted the following:-

Richard John Gamlin, the son of Edward and Elizabeth Gamlin, was born in 1907, at Swansea, Wales.

He married, 12th November 1929, Lilian Spenceley at Farnham in Surrey. They had three children: Ronald 1933, (died 1939), Patricia 1933 and Frederick 1935 born Bristol. At some point in 1939 Lilian and Richard were living at The Barracks in Newcastle upon Tyne. In September 1939, Lilian and her children were at 14, Deneside, Lanchester with her parents Ralph and Lilian Spenceley. Edward and Elizabeth Gamlin were living at Bristol in 1939.

Richard John died in 1941. The inscription "To Live In Hearts We Leave Behind Is Not To Die" was added to his headstone.

Lilian, later in 1945 married William Lane.

Richard John Gamlin is remembered at Lanchester on L62.01 and L62.06
