Cowan, E., Tpr., 1941
In Phaleron War Cemetery, Greece, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 7906661 Trooper Edward Cowan serving with the Royal Armoured Company Head Quarters, 1st Armoured Brigade who died 29/04/1941.

Dorothy Hall has submitted the following:-

Edward Cowan, son of Robert William and Frances Ellen, nee Whittle, (married 1912), was born 2nd July 1917 in the Lanchester District. He seems to have only one sister: Euphemia born 1912.

In September 1939, the family were living at The Colliery Houses at Maiden Law. Robert, born 1893, was a Colliery Hewer, Frances, born 1891, was a housewife and Edward was a Builder's Labourer.

Edward died in Greece, April 29th 1941 aged 24 years. His parents were still living in the Lanchester area. They added the inscription "He Sleeps With England's Heroes In The Watchful Eye Of God" to his headstone.

Robert William of Maiden Law died December 1951 and Frances Ellen died in 1970.

Edward Cowan is remembered in Lanchester on L62.01 and L62.06
