Thomas Cheston, the son of George and Selina Isabella, nee Mallett, was born in 1922 in the Lanchester District. He had a number of siblings: George 1911, Elsie 1914, Selina 1916, Raymond 1919 and Marjorie 1924.
In September 1939, the family were living at 41, Durham Road, Lanchester. George, born in 1886, was a Colliery Hewer and Selina, born 1886, was a housewife.
Thomas's uncles, Thomas and Stephen Cheston, died in World War 1 and are both remembered at Lanchester.
Thomas was drowned at sea July 5th 1941 aged 20 years.
