In Lanchester Kitswell Road Cemetery is a family headstone bearing the badge of the Royal Pioneers which reads:

Cherished memories of
a dearly loved son -
and brother
Gavin Peacock
accidentally killed in
Gibraltar 19th February 1985
aged 19 years

Gavin Peacock, born 30th April 1965, was the son of Geoffrey and Josephine S., nee Jones. He had one brother, Gary, born in 1963.

Private Gavin Peacock was a soldier, in what was then called the Royal Pioneer Corps. They were tasked with dismantling Nissen huts, left over from the Second World War, when one of the external walls collapsed and crushed him.

Private Peacock is also remembered in the National Arboretum on the Armed Services Memorial.
