3rd April 1945 Age 27

He made
the supreme sacrifice.


Robert William Tonks, born in 1918 at Lanchester, was the son of Ralph Henry, born 1866, and Elizabeth, nee Spencer. There were a number of siblings: Frank and Elizabeth Annie, his half-brother and half-sister, James 1910, Elizabeth 1911 and Ralph 1914.

In September 1939, the family was living at Victoria Terrace, Lanchester. Ralph was a retired tailor, Elizabeth a housewife, James a General Labourer, Ralph Jnr. a Plate Layer and Elizabeth was at home.

Robert died at Hollywood Hall Sanatorium, Wolsingham, April 3rd 1945.

Elizabeth died April 1947 and Ralph Henry died November 1948. Both are buried in Lanchester Kitswell Road Cemetery.
