Salmon, W., Pte., 1918
In Brie British Cemetery, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 46310 Private Wilfred Salmon serving with the 1st Battalion Leicester Regiment who died 19/09/1918.

Ian Murray has submitted the following:_

Wilfred was born in Craghead in 1898 to parents Michael and Mary Salmon. By 1911 they had had fifteen children but by this time eight had already died. They lived at 4, West Terrace, Burnhope. By the end of the war their address is given as 14, West Terrace. Wilfrid's brother, father and grandfather were all miners.

Wilfred served with the 1st Battalion of the Leicester Regiment and died on the 19th September 1918 not long before his 20th birthday. He is buried at Brie British Cemetery.

His parents added "He took who gave, God's will be done" to his headstone.

Awards: British War Medal; Victory Medal.

His brother Michael also died in World War One.
