Reynolds, J.H., Pte., 1918
In Staglieno Cemetery, Genoa, Italy, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 17093 Private John Henry Reynolds serving with the 12th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 28/11/1918.

Ian Murray has submitted the following:_

In 1891 the family lived in Cross Street, Brancepeth Colliery near Willington. By 1901 they were living in Framwellgate, Durham.

In 1911, John, his brother James, and his father were miners and the family lived at 40, West Terrace, Burnhope.

John served in the 12th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry. He embarked for France 25th August 1915. He died on 28th November 1918, seventeen days after the Armistice, and he is buried in Staglieno Cemetery, Genoa in Italy. From November 1917 to the end of the war, Genoa was a base for commonwealth forces and the 11th General, and 38th and 51st Stationary Hospitals, were posted in the city.

By the end of the war John's parents were living at Lingey Cottage, Sacriston.

John’s two brothers also enlisted. Joseph Patrick Reynolds joined the East Yorkshire Regiment on 19th October 1914 but on the 9th November 1914 was discharged, as "recruit not likely to become an efficient soldier." James William Reynolds joined the Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery. He enlisted on 1st September 1914 and was posted on the 5th September 1914. He served throughout the war but died of Bronchitis on 28th November 1918 (the very same date of death as his brother) in a hospital in Wimereux (near Boulogne) and is buried at Terlincthun British Cemetery. There is a J. Reynolds on the memorial in Sacriston Memorial Institute.

Awards: 1915 Star; British War Medal; Victory Medal.
