The Blaydon Courier 21/03/1941 reports:-

Amid many expressions of sympathy the funeral took place at Craghead cemetery of Private Ralph Thompson of the R.A.S.C. who as reported in our issue of last week was involved in a motor accident down south and died from his injuries.

He was buried with military honours soldiers from his Regiment acting as bearers, while soldiers from South Moor, Craghead, the Craghead Home Guard, members of the British Legion, Womens Institute, Grange Villa Labour Party and many of the general public formed the mournful procession to the graveside from the church. Deceased was 34 years of age. The vicar the Rev. Eddon conducted a service in the church and also officiated at the committal service.

The chief mourners were Mrs Thompson widow, Miss Jean Thompson daughter, Miss Ethel Readman stepdaughter, Mr Henry Thompson Grange Villa.
