CONSETT

Turnbull, G., 1914-18 (1924)
The Blaydon Courier 26/04/1924 reports:

Military funeral at Consett.
Consett was the scene of an impressive funeral on Saturday last, when the remains of George, the youngest son of George Turnbull, were laid to rest. The deceased had undergone treatment at Castle Leazes Hospital, Newcastle, for wounds received during the war, and after returning home, he died.

The 'cortege' was headed by the Crookhall Colliery Band, and the firing party under the command of Sergt.-Major Gunthorpe. The funeral was very representative - a tribute to the deceased, and amongst those present were the widow and child, his father, brothers William and Fred, Mr. and Mrs. White, Mr. and Mrs. Turnbull and daughter. The 'cortege' was met at Blackhill by the Rev. R.H. Wray, who conducted a short service in the Cemetery Chapel, and the body was afterwards laid to rest with full military honours.

George Turnbull 27492, Durham Light Infantry died 16th April 1924

He is not remembered on a local War Memorial.
