In Niederzwehren Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 250038 Corporal Alfred Malpass, serving with the 1st/6th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry who died 07/11/1918.

Son of John and Grace Malpass, of 11, Rosebery Terrace, Consett. Alfred was one of three brothers who were also serving. Sergeant Edward Malpass 1/6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, Private J. R. Malpass also with the Durham Light Infantry.

Alfred Malpass died whist a prisoner of the Germans after being captured.

A remembrance notice was included in the Blaydon Courier 12/11/1921.
