CONSETT

Reed, W.G., RQMS, 1919
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 12/09/1919 reports:“Death of ex-Quartermaster-Sergt. at Consett
Ex-Regimental Quartermaster-Sergt. W.G. Reed of Dial House, Sherburn Terrace, Consett, youngest son of the late Mr. George Reed, has died suddenly, after a day or two’s illness. Deceased joined the colours in the early stages of the conflict, and gained rapid promotion, until he attained the position of Regiment-Quartermaster Sergt. of the 11th D.L.I. (P.). He served overseas for some time, and it is stated that he contracted trench fever while in France. Since his demobilisation, Reed has been employed at the Consett Iron Company’s works. He was a keen follower of sport, and at one time acted as secretary to the old Consett Swifts A.F.C.”
