In White House Cemetery, St. Jean-Les-Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 6240 Private William Lovat serving with the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 09/08/1915.

Son of Ellen Elizabeth Robinson (formerly Lovat), of 10, Bessemer St., Blackhill, Co. Durham, and the late William Lovat.

In Benfieldside Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Loving Memory of
William Lovat
died August 14th 1902
aged 48 years.
George, son of the above
died April 27th 1941, at Benoni
South Africa
aged 59 years.
William, son of the above
killed in France August 9th 1915
aged 34 years
Albert, son of the above
died May 4th 1920
aged 28 years.
Arthur, Stephen and Louisa
died in infancy.

The Blaydon Courier 07/05/1921 carried an In Memoriam notice:

"In sweet remembrance of Albert Lovat, who passed away May 4th 1920; also his brother William, killed in action 1915. 'Death divides but memory clings'."
