Lane, C.W.T., Major, M.C., 1918
In Namps-au-Val British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Major C.W.T. Lane, serving with the 7th Dragoon Guards (Princess Royal's) who died 04/04/1918.

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle reports:

Wife of former Commander of the RFA in Newcastle.
We regret to announce the death, under tragic circumstances, of Mrs. Lane, of Rathkenny House, County Meath, Ireland, wife of Col. S.W. Lane, late Royal Field Artillery, who formerly commanded the artillery in Newcastle, and daughter of the late Henry W. Watson, and of the late Mrs. Watson, of Burnopfield, County Durham. In the early hours of March 8, Rathkenny House was raised, and the shock resulted in the same day in her having a severe seizure, from which she never rallied. Mrs. Lane passed away peacefully yesterday morning. Her only son, Major C.W. Lane, was killed when in command of the 7th Dragoon Guards in April, 1918, during the retreat of the Fifth Army. She leaves one daughter, who married in 1917, Captain Hornsby, of the 5th Lancers.
