McElduff, D., Capt., awarded MC 1916
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 26/10/1916 reports:

Military Cross for Capt. D. McElduff.

Captain D. McElduff, N.F., son of Mrs. McElduff, of Crookgate, Burnopfield, has been awarded the Military Cross. Capt. McElduff enlisted in November 1914, as a motor cyclist in the Northumberland Hussars Imperial yeomanry, and early in 1915 obtained a commission in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He was later promoted to lieutenant, and about the middle of the present year was further promoted to the rank of captain. Capt. McElduff, who is 23 years of age, was educated at Ushaw College, and served his articles in the office of Mr. J.B. Renton, surveyor to the Whickham Council. He was assistant surveyor to the Council when he enlisted. Capt. McElduff has two brothers in the Army.
