Tate, J.F.R., W/Off., 1944
In Ussy-sur-Marne Communal Cemetery, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1378784 Warrant Officer John Frederick Russell Tate, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 19/07/1944.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

W/O Tate was killed when Avro Lancaster III PB245 PG-Z of 619 Squadron was lost on a mission to attack a railway junction at Revigny. It is believed hat the Lancaster was shot down by a Luftwaffe night fighter, crashing at Ussy-sur-Marne with the loss of all seven crew members.

Lancaster PB245 PG-Z had departed Dunholme Lodge at 2258 for Ops Revigny.

It was intercepted at 2300M over Jouarre, nr Paris by a Night-Fighter captained by Nacht-Jagd “Experten” Hptm Heinz-Horst Zissbach (V/NJG2) and shot down at 0112 for his 23rd Abschuss.
