Sgt. Parkin was killed when Avro Lancaster I HK553 AA-S of 75 Squadron was lost on a mission to attack railway installations at Dreux. The Lancaster crashed at Tillieres-sur-Avre with the loss of six of the seven crew.

Lancaster HK533 [HK553?] AA-S had departed Mepal at 2313 for Ops Dreux. There are two possible claims for this loss – both by the same Pilot.
It was either intercepted at 2500M, 5-20km SW of Dreux by a Night-Fighter captained by Nacht-Jagd “Experten” Hptm Paul Zorner (Stab III/NJG5) and shot down at 0100 for his 49th Abschuss Or
It was intercepted at 2300M nr Brezolles by a Night-Fighter captained by Nacht-Jagd “Experten” Hptm Paul Zorner (Stab III/NJG5) and shot down at 0106 for his 51st Abschuss
