BURNOPFIELD

Clark, R., F/Sgt., 1944
In Reichswald War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1564949 Flight Sergeant Robert Clark, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 14/10/1944.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

Flight Sgt. Clark was killed when Avro Lancaster I NF928 PH-S of 12 Squadron was lost on a mission to Duisberg. The service files of the pilot, F/Lt. Ray Llloyd Clearwater, R.C.A.F., record that the Lancaster crashed at Hiesfelder Bruch, Dinslaken, with the loss of all eight crew members. Flight Sgt. Clark was the Lancaster’s Air Bomber. The files also contain a memo suggesting that NF928 might possibly have collided with another Lancaster, NG190 of 153 Squadron, as the two aircraft crashed close to one another.

Robert Clark is remembered in Burnopfield on B155.01 and at Rowlands Gill on R46.07
