Welcome Home to Preston Colliery men 1920
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 12/07/1920 reports a "welcome home" to the men who had returned from the Great War. "About 350 returned men and relatives of fallen fighters were present." Each received medals as souvenirs.

The firm of U.A. Ritson had found employment for very returned man, and had always paid the trade union of wages. "From 1916 to 1919 every workman and official at the colliery contributed to a fund to help the dependents of those who were way on service, over £2,500 being raised, and when it came to organising the welcome home, the firm said that they would double whatever the men of the colliery gave.
