Presentation to Sir James and Lady Knott

Newcastle Daily Chronicle 25/7/1919

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 25/07/1919 reports:

Presentation to Sir James and Lady Knott.
Some time ago, it will be remembered that, on the closing of Holeyn Hall V.A.D. Hospital, Wylam, Sir James and Lady Knott presented Mrs. James, M.B.E., Serving Sister of the Order of St.John of Jerusalem, the Commandant, and her staff with gold wristlet watches and bracelets, and Dr. Bishop, the medical officer in charge, with an aseptic instrument cabinet on stand, as mementoes of their work. This week, as many as possible gathered at Rudchester, the residence of Mr. and Mrs. James, for the purpose of showing their appreciation by presenting Sir James and her ladyship with an illuminated address. There were also present Mr. James, Mr. W.A. Hoyle (treasurer to the hospital), Mr. Garbutt Knott and others.

After entertaining all to tea, Mrs. James made the presentation, saying that they were all greatly indebted to Sir James and Lady Knott for their continued interest and generous help all the time the hospital was open, from 1915 to 1919, and begged their acceptance of the address.

Sir James replied that they would regard the address as one of their most cherished possessions, and that it would remind them of many sad and yet glad days spent at the hospital, and of the good work they had witnessed there.

Dr. Bishop, on behalf of the staff, thanked Sir James and Lady Knott for accepting the address, and said that while they could never repay, they felt that they must record, the many and great kindnesses which had been shown both to the patients and themselves.
