Hexham Unionist Club 1916 report
The Hexham Unionist Club's Annual Report for 1916 was reported in the Newcastle Daily Courant 25/02/1916. It reports a steady membership of 592, an increase of 24 over the previous year. At least 136 had voluntarily given their services to the cause of the country. Seven had fallen in action: Lieut. Drew Little; Lt. H.T. Richardson; Pte. W.E. Woodman; Pte. Joseph W. Robinson; Pte. G.W. Burn, Pte. Geo. Charlton. Three others were missing presumed dead: Capt. J.H. Cuthbert; Pte. Isaac Whittaker and Pte. John R. Wallace.
Since the end of the year the club's premises had been taken over by the officer commanding the 3rd/4th N.F. upon terms which the Committee considered satisfactory and would guarantee the club from financial loss. With the view of keeping the membership together, the club had taken temporary premises and the annual subscription would be reduced to 2s 6d for ordinary members and 1s 6d for country members.
