Hexham Weekly News 23/01/1923 reports:

"The monthly meeting of the Bellingham Rural Council was held on Saturday, the Rev. R.R. Hedley presiding. A letter was read from the War Office Trophies Committee offering the Council ten machine guns, ten rifles, ten bayonets, ten helmets, two trench mortars, and two grenade throwers captured from the enemy. Eight voted for accepting the trophies and eight against. It was agreed to leave the matter open to the next meeting.
