To the glory of God and in sacred remembrance of
Major General Joseph William Hughes late H.M. 54th Regt.
Died at Brighton Feby. 10th 1908.
He was mentioned in General orders with Brevet
after the saving of the Troop Ship Sarah Sands and nearly 500 lives
from destruction by fire at sea and also carried medal of the Indian Mutiny.
