Nazi bomber attack on fishing boat Ben Vurie
The Shields Gazette 04/03/1940 reports:

Bombed and machine-gunned by a Nazi raider, the North and South Shields crew of nine of the trawler Ben Vurie, owned by R. Irvin and Sons, North Shields, were undismayed by the attacks upon them and continued their fishing trip until it was completed. It was revealed last night when the trawler arrived at a North East of Scotland port that the Nazi bomber swooped only 10 feet above the mast, dropping bombs and making full use of machine guns. Fortunately, the bombs missed their target and machine gun-bullets failed to cause any casualties or material damage. The Ben Vurie was commanded by skipper George Charlton, 29 Baulkwell Green, North Shields, and the remainder of the crew included the mate, Henry Johnson, Ocean Road and chief engineer George Gray, Reay Street.
