SOUTH SHIELDS

Auxiliary Fire Service Social Club
The Shields Gazette 01/02/1940 reads

"The Old Town Hall in South Shields Market Place, where nearly 50 years ago members of the Town Council governed the Borough's destinies, has found a new use. It has been converted into the headquarters of the South Shields Auxiliary Fire Service Social Club, replete with recreation room and dry canteen. The new club, which was opened on Saturday by the Chief Constable (Mr TB Humpreys) is the culmination of 18 months of strenuous effort by its officials. During that time they have organised all kinds of social and sporting events. A proportion of these has been donated to various charitable institutions in the town, and the remainder has been set aside for equipping the establishment."
