"Jarrow War memorial Committee have approved a design entitled "The Spirit of Peace" from Mr. F.W. Doyle-Jones, of London, for a war memorial in the public park.
The monument,which will be of grey granite, surmounted by a bronze figure, will be 23 feet in height. the estimated costs is £2,500, but for the present it has been decided not to open a subscription list."

The memorial was never built.
