Problem of Jarrow War Memorial Fund
The Shields Gazette 30/11/1934 carries an article headed:

Problem of Jarrow War Memorial Fund.
In summary
More than £200 had been raised for a memorial and was in a bank account unused and forgotten. People who attend the ceremony in November probably don't realise that the memorial they attend is for Palmer's Shipbuilding and Iron Co.

Meetings had been held which had not been able to agree a formet - some said a cross, others a hospital. In the meantime, Palmers had erected their own.

The fund now stood at £214; only one of three trustees remained.

Why not turn the money over to a charitable trust, Why not endow a bed in the local hospital?

Those who had supplied the money could ask for its return - why not ask them what to do with the money?
