James Simpson Howson was born 03/12/1877 at St. Helen's Auckland. He married Helen in 1902 at Sunderland. In November 1914 he joined the East Yorkshire Regiment and was awarded a Silver Badge (244701) in September 1917. In June 1918 he joined the RAF.
