Certificate awarded to James Milligan

South Hylton Local History Society Collection includes a highly ornamented certificate issued to James Stephen Milligan of the Royal Garrison Artillery:

“ . . . . As one of those who, by serving your / country during the Great War helped / to win peace through victory, your fellow / citizens of Sunderland offer this record of / your service and of their gratitude”.

It was issued from Sunderland Town Hall in October, 1919 and was signed by the Mayor and Town Clerk.
