Great Britain celebrated the signing of the Peace Treaty on Saturday July 19th 1919. After this many places in the following weeks also had Victory celebrations.
This photograph shows the Peace bonfire, Charlaw Hills near Sacriston July 19th 1919. The bonfire appears to contain a lot of old colliery tubs and also barrels at the top.
The Chester-le-Street Chronicle 25/07/1919 reports on various celebrations and that "a display of fireworks and the lighting of a large bonfire concluded the proceedings."
