About 83 of the employees had been in service, which was about 70 per cent of the work force. Eight had fallen.
The Co-op had paid £3,077 2s 6d to the dependents, of which £1,093 15s 7d had been provided by employees. The Co-op was continuing to pay out a grant of 7s 6d per week, and 5s for single men, to the relatives of the deceased men.
The Society management board had agreed to spend £250 towards the costs of “Welcome Homes” and another £250 for war memorials covered by the Society.
The employees who had returned from service were each given a gold medal suitably inscribed with the recipient’s name.
