Plaque Thorp 1925 Holy Cross Church

In Holy Cross Church is a plaque 12 inches high x 60 inches wide set in a frame 3 inches wide and painted dark blue with raised pattern including roses, rose leaves and thistles which are gilded. The letters are carved and gilded.

In thanksgiving to God for the memory of
Charles Arthur Robert Thorp
Lieutenant in the Royal Navy
who was drowned in the English Channel Nov. 12th 1925 aged 26
with his fellow officers and men in H.M. Submarine M1,
Eldest son of Charles Fenwick and Jane Thorp
married in this Church to Anne Campbell Hunter

They that go down to the sea in ships and occupy their business
in great waters, these men see the works of the Lord and his wonders in the deep.
