Newcastle Daily Chronicle 9/10/1920 reports the welcome home of 200 employees of the United Alkali Company (Allhusen Works), Gateshead. The men were treated to dinner by officials and friends of the firm.
From the firm, some 400 men had joined the colours. A “large number” had fallen, and many were wounded. Eight received the Military Medal. The remained of the men were to be similarly entertained on October 15th.

Newcastle Daily Chronicle 16/10/1920 reports the welcome home to a further 170 men who had served.
The firm “were the first to make the most effective poison gas used at the Front, and the first to make the most effective product to protect British troops by clearing ground from ‘mustard gas’.”
