STANHOPE

German graves in Stanhope Cemetery
In Stanhope Cemetery are the graves of two German prisoners of war who worked in the quarries there. Their comrades used the stone they were quarrying to make headstones.

One is for Karl Lux and reads:

Ruht in Gott
Karl Lux
Inf. des Res. Inf. Regts.
No.111
Er starb am 23 April 1918
(the last line cannot be understood)

The second one is for Krebs and reads:
Hier
ruht in Gott
Michael Krebbs
Jager des Kurhess
Jager Battle No.11
Gest. Am29.Oktbr.1918
Durch unfall
gewidmet
von seinen Kameraden
