Allchurch, Pte. Billy, R.A.M.C., Prisoner of War having previously been reported missing at Arnhem.
Bennetts, A.C.1. James Robinson, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bennetts, Prisoner of War in the hands of the Japanese, returned home in 1945 after three and a half years in captivity.
Bowes, Miss Ethel, Women’s Auxiliary Corps.
Chance, Cpl. James, returned home in 1945 after three years on active service.
Connelly, Pte. Richard, R.C.S., son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Connelly, of 31, Greyridge Estate, Prisoner of War.
Coulthard, Pte. J.W., D.L.I., served at Dunkirk and in the Middle East.
Cummings, Pte. Wilfred, Royal Scots, of Greyridge Estate, Prisoner of War.
Cumusky, Pte. Cecil, of Princess Street, Prisoner of War in Japanese hands following the fall of Hong Kong returned home in 1945, having served overseas for eight and a half years.
Davis, Miss May, Women’s Auxiliary Corps.
Ditchburn, Sgt. Alfred, D.L.I., the brother of Sgt.-Major Robert Ditchburn was wounded in Normandy.
Duffy, Cpl. Albert, R.A., reported missing.
Duffy, Sgt. Walter, M.R.A., of 32, Newcastle Street, rescued off the coast of Greenland followed an attack by enemy submarines.
Etherington, Paratrooper Jack, of Station Avenue, son of Mr. and Mrs George Etherington, Prisoner of War captured at Arnhem.
Felton, Pte. George, R.A.M.C., Prisoner of War, having been captured at the fall of Crete in June 1941.
Felton, L/Cpl. John, R.E.M.E., returned home in 1946.
Firth, Sgt. Pilot, George, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Alf Firth, obtained his “wings” .
Futers, Miss L., Women’s Auxiliary Corps.
Gibbon, Signalman Robert, Royal Navy, returned home in 1946 after five years service mainly on North Atlantic conveys and in Iceland.
Gould, 2nd Lt. Keith, R.I.A.S.C., age 20, son of Mr. W.A. Gould, of Church Street, qualified at the Officers’ Training School, Baradore, India.
Greenfield, Capt. R.F.A., age 20, son of the Rev. George and Mrs. Greenfield, awarded the Military Cross, twice Mentioned in Despatches.
Grice, Airman Frederic, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grice, of 10, Princess Street, gained his commission.
Hunter, Pte. Jack, of Newcastle Street, Prisoner of War, having been captured at the fall of Crete in June 1941 returned home in 1945.
Huntley, Pte. Harry, R.A.S.C., was taken Prisoner of War in Crete and spent five years in captivity in Germany.
McAloon, A.B. Patrick, of 19, Railway Street, served in a destroyer.
McKay, Pte. Andrew, Leicester Regiment, Prisoner of War in Japanese hands having previously been reported missing.
Moran, Laurie, Home Guard.
Murther, Steve, Home Guard.
Myers, Pte. Alfred, of 19, Cobden Terrace, reported missing 27/06/1942, Prisoner of War in Germany, having been transferred from Italy, returned home in 1945.
Ord, Guardsman Joseph, Grenadiers Guards, wounded and in hospital.
Pigg, Pte. Irving, Prisoner of War, having previously been reported missing returned home in 1945 after five years in captivity.
Rutherford, Cpl. Ralph, R.A.F. returned home in 1946 having enlisted in 1940 and served in Palestine and Iraq.
Ward, Miss V., Women’s Auxiliary Corps.
White, Laurie, D.L.I., son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave White, of 25, Princess Street, was in hospital in Singapore in 1946, having been wounded in Burma.
Wilkinson, Sgt. Raymond, R.A.M.C., served in North Africa.
Wilson, Rifleman Arthur, Prisoner of War.
Winter, Wireless Operator. Charles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe, Winter, of 61, Sunderland Street, serving in the Royal Navy.
Winter, George, one of the six sons of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Winter, of 61, Sunderland Street, serving in the R.E.M.E.
Winter, Joseph, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Winter, of 61, Sunderland Street, serving in the Army.
Winter, William, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Winter, of 61, Sunderland Street, is a Signalman in the Armed Forces.
